There has been a brewery for over 150 years at Donnington Brewery. In 1865 Richard Arkell started brewing beer alongside farming.
The Building itself dates back to 1291 when there was a cloth mill at Donnington. The power was derived from spring fed lake which fed through a sluice into the River Dikler, a tributary of The River Windrush. In 1580 the mill was converted to grind corn to create flour.
Beer was first made in 1865 and was initially supplied to the gentry in the hunting field. After the WW11 Claude Arkell ran the business until his death in 2007. The business is still flourishing today supplying beer to 20 pubs.
The Brewery is one of the most picturesque spots in The Cotswolds tucked away from some of the more touristy places. A Hidden Gem.
