Tetbury, 10 miles South of Cirencester, and 1 mile from Highgrove House, one of the country estates of King Charles 111, is a town of significant architectural interest. A prosperous wool town in the 16thC & 17thC is dominated by the Grade 1 listed Market House, built by the Feoffees, in 1655.
The Chipping Steps which run past 17thC weavers cottages used to be the gateway into the town, and which provide a backdrop for many films.
The Wooldsack races are held on Gumstool Hill every May Bank Holiday. The origin of the races dates back to the 17thC where drovers ran from pub to pub on Gumstool Hill with 60lbs on their back to im press women.
